英語の形式目的語 it（「find it ～ to …」）の意味と使い方

形：find it + 形容詞 + to ～
意味：…するのは〜だと思う（仮の目的語 it）
find・make・think などの目的語が to ～ や that 節のとき、it を仮の目的語にして長い部分を後ろに回します。

形の作り方

使う時形例
findfind it + 形容詞 + to ～I find it hard to wake up.
makemake it + 形容詞 + to ～The rain made it hard to see.
thinkthink it + 形容詞 + to ～I think it best to wait.
that 節make it clear that ～He made it clear that he was angry.

例文

  • I find it difficult to get up early in winter.
    冬に早起きするのは難しいと感じます。
  • The new app makes it easy to order food online.
    新しいアプリを使うと、ネットで料理を注文するのが簡単です。
  • Our teacher made it clear that phones were not allowed.
    先生は、携帯電話は禁止だということをはっきり伝えました。

使い方のポイント

  • この it は to ～ や that 以下を指す仮の目的語なので、「それを」とは訳しません。
  • I find to get up early difficult. のように、to ～ をそのまま目的語の位置に置くことはしません。
