英語の「It is no use -ing / There is no -ing」の意味と使い方

形：It is no use -ing / There is no -ing
意味：〜してもむだだ / 〜することはできない
It is no use -ing は「〜してもむだだ」、There is no -ing は「〜することはできない」を表す決まった言い方です。

形の作り方

使う時形例
〜してもむだだIt is no use + -ingIt's no use crying.

〜することはできないThere is no + -ingThere is no knowing.

例文

  • It's no use worrying about things you can't change.
    変えられないことを心配してもしかたありません。
  • There's no telling what will happen next.
    次に何が起こるかはだれにも分かりません。
  • There's no point in arguing with him.
    彼と言い争っても意味がありません。

使い方のポイント

  • no use のあとは -ing 形にするのがふつうです。
  • There is no -ing は、It is impossible to ～ とほぼ同じ意味です。
