英語の「tell」+ 人 +「that ～」の意味と使い方

形：tell + 人 + that ～
意味：（人）に〜ということを伝える
tell・show・teach などのあとに「人」と that + 主語 + 動詞 を続け、「（人）に〜だと伝える・教える」を表します。

形の作り方

使う時形例
伝えるtell + 人 + that + 主語 + 動詞He told me that he was busy.
that を省くtell + 人 + 主語 + 動詞She told us she was sorry.
約束する・教えるpromise / teach + 人 + that ～I promised him that I would come.

例文

  • My teacher told me that I should read more books.
    先生は私にもっと本を読むべきだと言いました。
  • This story teaches us that friends are important.
    この話は、友だちが大切だということを私たちに教えてくれます。
  • Please tell your mother that I called.
    お母さんに、私から電話があったと伝えてください。

使い方のポイント

  • 過去の文では、that のあとの動詞も過去形にすることが多いです（時制の一致）。
  • say のあとには人を直接置けません。say to me that ～ か tell me that ～ にします。

正解：3. told

「人に〜と伝える」は tell + 人 + that ～ なので「told」。said は人を直接後ろに置けず、said to the staff that ～ のように to が要ります。
