英語の接続詞「that」（「I think that ～」）の意味と使い方

形：think that ～
意味：〜ということ（考えや知っている内容）
think・know・hope などのあとに that + 主語 + 動詞 を続け、「〜だと思う」「〜ということを知っている」と内容を表します。

形の作り方

使う時形例
思う・知っているthink / know + that + 主語 + 動詞I think that he is right.
that を省くthink + 主語 + 動詞I think it's true.
「〜ではないと思う」don't think + (that) ～I don't think it will rain.

例文

  • I think that this plan is good.
    この計画はよいと思います。
  • Did you know that Ken has a twin brother?
    健にふたごの兄弟がいることを知っていましたか。
  • I hope that you have a great time in Canada.
    カナダで楽しく過ごせるといいですね。

使い方のポイント

  • 会話では that をよく省きます。I think he is busy. のように言います。
  • 「〜ではないと思う」は、I think he isn't ～ より I don't think he is ～ と言うのがふつうです。

think のあとに「〜ということ」と考えの内容を続けるので接続詞の「that」。what は後ろの文に欠けた部分があるときに使い、ここには入りません。
